Green Tea Cleanser

Ingredients

1 cup  green tea 
20 drops tea tree essential oil

Instructions

Steep 1 green tea bag in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes.

To use, dip a clean cotton ball in the tea and use it to cleanse your face.

Green tea (Camellia sinensis ) is great for treating acne because a study found that epigallocatechin 3 gallate (EGCG) which is one of the main antioxidant polyphenols of green tea, has anti-inflammatory properties (reduces inflammation), antiseborrheic properties (reduces sebum production) and antimicrobial properties since it reduced the growth of the acne causing bacteria P. acnes and improved acne. 

Tea tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) has been proven by this study to have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This study found that the components of tea tree oil were active against the acne bacteria P. acnes. This study which compared 5% benzoyl peroxide lotion with 5% tea tree oil gel found that it was effective for treating.


Neem Toner

Ingredients

3/4 cup neem tea 
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 
20 drops lemon essential oil

Instructions

Steep 1 teaspoon of neem leaf powder in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. 
Once it cools, add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and 20 drops of lemon essential oil and stir to mix. 
To use, dip a clean cotton ball in the tea and use it to tone your face after cleansing.

Neem leaves have been shown by this study to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antihyperglycemic properties which are all useful for treating acne. 

Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon) has antimicrobial properties and can reduce the bacteria on the skin. 

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) treats acne effectively because it contains acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid and succinic acid which have all been shown by this study and this study to kill the acne-causing bacteria P. acnes. In addition to its antibacterial properties, ACV also has antifungal properties which aid in killing micro-organisms on the skin.


Green Tea Face Scrub

Ingredients

1 and 1/2 teaspoons green tea 
1 teaspoon neem leaf powder 
2 teaspoons cinnamon powder 
4 drops tea tree essential oil

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients until they form a smooth paste. 
To use, massage it onto a cleansed face using gentle circular motions for a few minutes. Rinse off with warm water. 
Do not use if you have inflammed (red) acne lesions.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) has anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce the redness and swelling of acne lesions. It has also been shown by this study to have antioxidant properties and it thus helps reduce free radical damage to the skin.


Neem Face Mask

Ingredients

1 teaspoon neem tea 
2 teaspoons bentonite clay 
3 drops lemon essential oil

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients until they form a smooth paste. 
To use, apply on a clean face, wait for 10 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Green Tea Acne Spot Treatment

Ingredients

Ingredients

1/4 cup green tea 
3/4 cup aloe vera gel 
20 drops tea tree essential oil

Instructions

Mix all the ingredient thoroughly. 
To use, massage the mixture using fingertips onto a cleansed face.

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) is awesome for treating acne because a study found that applying it on the skin reduces inflammation since it has anti-inflammatory properties and it thus reduces the redness and swelling of acne lesions. The study also found that applying aloe vera to the skin aides wound healing which is thought to be due to the fact that it stimulates cell regeneration.
